Vasi’s Work

Introduction
Vasi’s career covers a 46 year period almost all of it spent in Rome working as a print maker and specializing in vedute. His output can be divided into two basic categories. First is the collection of views of ephemeral structures such as catafalques, temporary triumphal arches, firework displays and especially those structures associated with the annual Chinea festival in Rome (there are over 100 views by Vasi in this latter category alone). Secondly, and far more important for historical studies of urbanism and architecture, is his large output of views of the city of Rome, and especially his unsurpassed 10 volume delle Magnificenze di Roma.
